Mae
The best coffee in Tel Aviv, and I am not exaggerating . Starbucks didn’t survive in Israel. Coffee for Israelis is at least as important as hummus, if not more. The Mae barista will make your cup as if it was your last. The amount of care and love they put into each one of the lattes and expressos is staggering. We love it, and, if you want to meet us in the morning, there is a high chance you’ll find us at Mae around 10 am, almost every day! Mae Cafe’s Israeli owners have an exclusivity agreement with a Costa Rican family who has been roasting high-quality coffee since 1941. Traveling to this Central American coffee kingdom annually for taste tests and bean selection (what coffee lover wouldn’t apply for that job?), the Mae experts bring home each year’s winning beans in still-green condition to a climate-controlled warehouse, roasting them in small batches at their own local facility. Although almost anyone who likes good coffee will enjoy Mae, this sophisticated little jewel really is the place in Tel Aviv for the coffee aficionado. These people are real coffee lovers and have done a lot of research. And they are happy to share their knowledge. Among all the new specialty coffee shops propping up in Tel Aviv at the moment, Mae is definitely one of the first ones and one of the most successful ones. You’ll often find a queue, especially in the morning. Their coffee is a like a cup of courage. You can also bring it home as they sell a selection of ground beans nicely packages so you can continue enjoying it in the confort of your home.
