Traditional Chinese Medicine in Tel Aviv, the Canine Edition
Dogs play a major part in the life of Tel Avivians. Have you ever noticed how many dogs there are in the city? Tel Aviv is a dog lovers’ paradise with over 50 dog parks in the city, alongside dog beaches, spas, day-cares, speciality boutiques, and even restaurants catering to our favorite 4 legged friends! We see all sorts of dog breeds running around Tel Aviv from a petite Dutch Dodges, massive Bordeaux dogs, to the ever present little Shih-Tzu.
All of these dogs need medical assistance just like us from time to time, to ensure their health and well-being. Beyond the fun things for our dogs, Tel Aviv has hundreds of well-trained veterinarians, but also a variety of alternative therapies such as Osteopathy, Chiropractic, Psychology, and even Traditional Chinese Medicine, which is what we would like to focus on.
One of our team has had a Beagle in Tel Aviv for almost 15 years, and as any Beagle owner knows, having a Beagle in the family is quite the challenge. Training, barking, proper behavior, the constant search of food are all aspects of having a Beagle, in addition to the being beyond adorable. Our beloved Beagle colleague is now facing one of the largest challenges of her life, suffering from a slipped disc which makes her day-to-day life difficult and limits her mobility.
She’s made her rounds of Tel Aviv’s various veterinarians undergoing a long battery of tests, an MRI, a neurologist consultation, but nothing could help. “Rest” was the only treatment option. After thousands of Shekels and our beloved friend only deteriorating, she still suffered.
That’s when we discovered Traditional Chinese Medicine for dogs. Specializing in massage and acupuncture, the Ruach Chaya (Animal Spirit) Clinic has been treating dogs in Traditional Chinese Medicine for close to 20 years. Acupuncture isn’t just for humans after all, with it being effective for our 4 legged friends suffering with blood flow, kidney, liver, and back pain issues, just like it is for us.
Their well trained and experienced staff make house calls and headed on over to meet with our beloved Beagle friend. They connected instantly over the acupuncture session, with no pain or discomfort being felt. After only 2 sessions it’s as if 5 years have been taken off, with our friend already feeling better and walking like before. She’s now back to being the little stubborn annoying Beagle that we all love, without pain and living her life to the fullest, pulling on walks and searching for food!
Stay tuned for our next installment of our Dogs in Tel Aviv series!
